Behind the wheel | Meet Bus Driver Jon Reneau

It's the last day of National Wisconsin School Bus Driver Appreciation Week! Last month, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed a proclamation to honor our bus drivers across the state during the week of February 14- 18th.

Here at MCPASD, we are proud to have fantastic and talented school bus drivers who provide a positive experience to our students every day. They are the first hello and last goodbye, one of the most vital positions in our district.

Today, you are meeting Bus Driver Jon Reneau, who has been with our district for five years. The students call him "Bus Driver Jon," and he sure is loved by them.

Did you know that Jon was a former Human Resources Director?

He is now enjoying his retirement serving our students, and we here at MCPASD can't thank him enough.

"At the end of the day, it's about the kids," said Jon. "We're all here for the kids. All these drivers will tell you it starts and ends with making sure the kids get to school and get to school safely."

So what does the day of a bus driver look like anyway?

Well, it's flexible. We take drivers that can only drive an am shift or PM shift.

We are thankful that Jon drives for both shifts. He comes into the shop around 6 a.m. and starts planning out his day.

"I go out to the bus barn at about 6:45 in the morning and start preparing for the day's routes," said Jon. "We do a pre-trip every day of our buses, and we go all around it and look at all the various components. The wheels, the suspension, the alarm system to make sure everything is in order before we begin the route."

And in this cold weather, our drivers stay nice and toasty when they inspect their buses in our MCPASD Bus Barn. That means they don't have to worry about scraping off ice or warming up the buses.
