Kromrey eighth-graders Harry Jin, Ian McGinley, Owen Weisenberger, Ryan Zhu and Ryan Slattery took second place in the Regional Science Bowl virtual event at UW-Madison on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Six MCPASD middle school teams participated virtually in the Regional Science Bowl Event. Special thanks to coaches Rita Mullen and Ruth Frawley and to high school student coaches, David Jiang, Trevor Chau, Sanjay Suresh and Nihar Ballamudi.

Meanwhile, approximately 100 middle level students participate in a series of Spelling/Vocab Bees this year through the Scripps National Spelling Bee Program.  Scripps developed an online testing platform for schools and sponsors that allowed us to host spelling bees via virtual exams. Twenty-one students from each school advanced to the District Bee the last week of January.  From there, 10 students have advanced to the CESA 2 Regional Bee to also be held virtually at the end of February.

The finalists are:

Glacier Creek: Diya Chilukuri, Radhika Gupta, Sai Suhas Pulivarthi, Nikhil Quintin, and Prarthna Sampath

Kromrey: Shilpasri Pooruli Balaji, Venkat Peddinti, Sahana Saravana Kumar, Shreya Ramesh, and Kavin Jayakumar Kaliyappan

Top students from the Regional Bee may advance to the Wisconsin State Spelling Bee.

Also, more than 75 students in grades 6-8 have been participating in MathCounts Club this school year. Some of those students participated in the Regional MathCounts Event on Feb. 6. Six students -- Harry Jin, Owen Weisenberger, Micah Friedman, Shreya Ramesh, Jeremiah Kim, and Luke Zhang -- have qualified for the Chapter Invitation to be held on Feb. 25.

Special thanks to club advisers Ben Saltzman and Ruth Frawley and to parent coaches Abigail Ochberg and Oh Hoon Kwon.
