CAPS students put their creativity, innovation and communication skills to the test during a recent program-wide Sprint focused on hiking safety.
Students were given just two days to develop a product, create a marketing plan and prepare a three-minute presentation to pitch their idea to a panel of judges. The fast-paced challenge encouraged students to think creatively, work collaboratively and turn an idea into a compelling product and presentation within a limited amount of time.
At the end of the two-day Sprint, students delivered 12 presentations, each centered around hiking safety. Teams were challenged to demonstrate creativity and innovation while also considering how their product would be marketed to its intended audience.
With only three minutes to make their pitch, students had to communicate their ideas clearly and confidently while demonstrating the value and practicality of their product.

-Shannon Valladolid, Director of Information and Public Relations
-Melissa Burgos, Science Teacher at Middleton High School
Judges evaluated the teams on their creativity and innovation, marketing plan, presentation and communication skills.
Taking the top spot was Thermal-Aid, an innovative first aid kit designed with versatility in mind. In addition to carrying essential first aid supplies, the product could transform into a blanket or tent, providing hikers with an additional layer of protection during an emergency.
The program-wide Sprint is one example of how CAPS gives students opportunities to apply their learning through hands-on, real-world experiences. From developing a product under a tight deadline to marketing an idea and pitching it to an audience, students practiced skills they can carry with them well beyond the classroom.
