Eighth graders in Kromrey Middle School and Glacier Creek Middle School choirs, bands and orchestras recently performed at the Beyond the Notes Music Festival. The festival was held across two sites at the Great Wolf Lodge on April 15-16 and at the Kalahari Resort on May 21-22.
MCPASD students were among nearly 5,000 students from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois to perform at the festival, which included more than 115 ensembles across the combined sites. The performances were free and open to the public.
Kromrey and Glacier Creek eighth grade choirs performed under the direction of Jason Cree. Eighth grade bands and orchestras were directed by Darlayne Coughlin, Kimberly Reynolds, Anne Vanderbloemen, Eric Solberg and Kristen Flak-Solom.
Students also had opportunities to work with guest clinicians, including band directors and professors from universities such as the University of Wisconsin-Madison, among others. School ensembles performed a variety of selections and participated in interactive clinics with the guest clinicians. Students also had time to enjoy the resorts' water parks and adventure parks.
The festival creates transformative musical experiences that develop young musicians' skills, knowledge, and emotional growth while supporting educators and advancing music education. Visit the festival’s website for more information.
