The Cardinals will play their season opener at Verona on Oct. 1 as the Adapted Sports League kicks off its second season. Middleton High School coaches Kevin Bavery and Jessica McIntosh are excited for the upcoming indoor soccer season.
“We are looking forward to having fun and competing with our new and returning players,” McIntosh said. “We are looking forward to practices, bus rides and games with the team. Most of all, we are looking forward to the electric atmosphere of support and excitement from the entire Middleton High School building – students and staff – and the Middleton community.”
The team includes 10 returning and three new players plus an expanded league. In addition to Middleton High School’s team, the league for high school students with disabilities includes teams from DeForest, Sun Prairie East, Sun Prairie West, Verona and Waunakee.
Last year was the league’s first season, and Middleton High School's players had an overwhelmingly positive experience.
“The student, staff, and community involvement and support has been incredible,” Bavery said. “We look forward to people packing the stands for our home games again.”
Bavery said changes for home games this season include students singing the national anthem as well as cheer team and dance team performances at half time. The team’s home games are Oct. 8 and Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
“We would love to see as many fans there as possible,” Bavery said.
McIntosh said the players are ready for the soccer season to begin.
“They talk about Adapted Sports League year-round with teachers and peers,” McIntosh said. “It makes their day a little fuller and a little brighter whenever they share and connect with others about Adapted Sports League.”
