WMTV 15 News reporter Camberyn Kelly recently spoke with Elm Lawn Elementary School principal Lisa Rust, MCPASD interpreter and translator Soly Rodriguez, and paraeducator Sindy Rivera Amorocho to highlight how MCPASD supports multilingual language learners and their families.
Rivera Amorocho is originally from Colombia, and the story explored how Rodriguez first supported Rivera Amorocho in registering her son, David, at Elm Lawn Elementary School. When Rivera Amorocho expressed interest in working for MCPASD, Rodriguez helped her complete an application.
As WMTV 15 News explained, “Rodriguez does everything from helping families fill out paperwork to helping them find a paycheck.”
Rivera Amorocho initially joined MCPASD in Nutrition Services at Northside Elementary School. In the 2025-2026 school year, Sindy will work as a paraeducator at Elm Lawn Elementary School, where her son David will be in second grade.
Rust emphasized the importance of having bilingual support staff at the district level to expand MCPASD’s reach in the community.
“We always have to think of different ways to connect with families,” Rust said.
