Middleton High School’s Varsity Girls/Nonbinary Ultimate Frisbee team won the 2025 Wisconsin High School Girls/Nonbinary State Championship held in Madison on May 24 and 25. Led by eight seniors, the team took the field and swept pool play 4-0, ready to face archrival and defending champions Madison West.

West started with a strong pull that led to an immediate turnover, and their strong zone play frustrated the Middleton offense for most of the first half. Down six to four, Head Coach Megan Sokup called a timeout, and Assistant Coach Dayna VandenAvond focused the team and helped identify how to approach the unusual four-person marking pattern.

Following the timeout, the seniors started to find their rhythm and soon took control over the game, preventing West from scoring again. After being down 4-6, Middleton went on a seven-point scoring run to win 11-6.

Middleton High School senior Megan Borseth dominated in the endzone defensively and offensively. Middleton High School sophomore Mika Stockner continued to provide a safety valve on offense whenever the thrower was stymied by the four-person defensive zone.

“I can’t say enough about Megan B. and Mika,” Sokup said. “Mika is a force of nature. Mika can be so disruptive on defense, and their ability to cut through the zone and find an open lane to start a flow is amazing.”

“Megan Borseth had a tournament for the ages,” VandenAvond added. “She was unstoppable in the endzone and became our absolute go-to for scoring.”

The Varsity Girls/Nonbinary Ultimate Frisbee team had six players named to the All-State teams: Stockner and Borseth (First Team All-State); Middleton High School seniors Izzie Bloch and Hannah Machleidt , Middleton High School junior Audrey VanBendegom, Middleton High School sophomore Greta Durand (Second Team All-State).

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls/Nonbinary Ultimate Frisbee team on their thrilling state championship win!
