Advanced Learning Program

About the MCPASD Advanced Learning Program

The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District aligns itself with the most progressive research and practices in the field, and the belief that “giftedness” is not a fixed, single entity but is multifaceted and dynamic. Aptitude refers to the degree of readiness to learn and perform well in a particular situation. It is inherently developmental and multidimensional and is much more inclusive than the concepts of “talent” and “ability.” Therefore, the focus of this plan is on advanced learning and aptitude development rather than the label of “giftedness”.

Students who receive advanced learning services show evidence of, or potential for, exceptional capabilities in intellect, specific academic areas, leadership, creativity, and/or the visual and performing arts.

This plan has been created in alignment with guidance from the Wisconsin Department of Instruction and the NAGC Pre-K-Grade-12 Gifted Programming Standards.
