new projects

During the Board of Education meeting on January 24, 2022, Assistant Superintendent of Operations Lori Ames explained the current capital maintenance projects that have been completed this school year at our buildings, along with the long-range capital maintenance plan for the next decade.

Every year, the facilities department reviews the needs of our buildings for improvements. According to Ames, funding for these projects is used from the capital projects levy that the board levies each year specifically for this purpose.

This school year (2021-22) upgrades were done at Northside, Park, and the District Services Center.

Northside Elementary received a bathroom remodel and a carpet replacement on the building's east end. Park Elementary had a gutter replacement, and an LED interior upgrade was completed at DSC.

The majority of capital improvements for the 2022-2023 school year will be at the Elementary level. Ames mentioned that this school year (21-22), the district set aside $1,075,000 for projects, however next school year (22-23), we are looking to spend less.

"Our buildings are in amazing shape between the work that we do from a capital projects standpoint and the additional work that we've done through the referendum in the last few years," said Ames.

Northside will also be receiving additional upgrades next school year (22-23), including a water line, ceiling grid, and tile replacement.

Elm Lawn is set to have a roof replacement. Sauk Trail is scheduled to have the carpet in the hallway replaced, Park will be receiving a renovation to the exterior windows, and Glacier Creek will have their exterior doors replaced.

The board will be approving this tentative Long-Range Capital Maintenance Plan during its next meeting on February 14, 2022.
