MHS students in Creative Writing classes have created an outdoor drive-through poetry exhibit just south of the building.
"Calm Amidst the Chaos will be available along the sidewalk on South Beach facing Franklin Avenue through Jan. 29. The yard signs were posted on Jan. 15. The best times to drive by are after 3:45 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends because at those times the street is pretty empty and easy to drive through and read the poetry, MHS English teacher Jen Mathison-Ohly said.
Mathison-Ohly noted that students knew they couldn't have the annual show in Gallery 2000 this school year, but still wanted to do something creative.
"With so many students craving a moment of peace in this ever barreling storm, it is only fitting that the title of the poetry show be 'Calm Amidst the Chaos'. All the poetry available for viewing in the drive-by exhibit is focused around the central theme of beauty and pause in the din of insanity,'' MHS student Clara Landucci said. "The poems represent the unity of 49 different voices, each with different stories, each with different dreams. The exhibit is a garden of personal exploration emerging through the snow and the ice, into a world of so many current persisting evils. It is the calm amidst the chaos."
Special thanks to the MHS English Department, MHS administration, and Middleton Police Department for help with planning and approval. Cecelia Kasper, Dana Huggett, Clara Landucci, Ella Wubben, and Elora Doxtater made up the student planning crew.
"It's something different and was fun to create,'' Mathison-Ohly said.
