129 members of Middleton High School’s Distributive Education Clubs of America, or DECA, team recently competed at the District 3 Career Development Conference at DeForest Area High School. They demonstrated real-world business and marketing skills through competitive role-play scenarios and completed exams assessing their knowledge of industry standards.
Middleton High School had an exceptional showing with 19 series champions along with 34 honorable mentions.
“This was the most members we’ve ever had compete at Districts,” said club advisor Bob Hutchison. “It’s also the most series champions, honorable mentions, and medals earned. This year’s group was ready to compete.”
Senior Sarah Li took first place in her event.
“Taking first place felt incredibly rewarding,” Li said. “Districts is always nerve-wracking, but seeing my hard work pay off meant a lot.”
As the president of Middleton High School’s DECA chapter, Li commented on the chapter as a whole: “It’s been especially inspiring to watch our chapter grow so quickly and see younger competitors thrive. I feel incredibly grateful to lead such a passionate group of students!”
32 students will compete at the State Career Development Conference (SCDC) in Lake Geneva at the end of February, where they will continue representing Middleton High School’s DECA chapter at the state level.
“I’m excited for SCDC and ready to see Middleton continue to dominate, and I can’t wait to celebrate our successes together!” Li said.
