Middleton High School’s Distributive Education Clubs of America, or DECA, team members are off to a strong start as they prepare for Districts, the first competition of the season.
They prepared for the upcoming season with practice competitions at UW-Whitewater in November and the Mid-West Invite, which was held at Middleton High School with Madison West’s DECA chapter, in December.
“The practice competitions are really helpful for the students to get ready for Districts – the first official competition of the season – which will be held at DeForest Area High School in January,” said Bob Hutchison, DECA advisor.
He said practice competitions give first-time competitors experience doing role-plays and returning competitors an opportunity to polish their skills. Senior Sarah Li was named the Middleton Series Champion at the UW-Whitewater competition, based on her strong performance.
“I thought Whitewater was a great chance to get practice for Districts, and it was nice to see our chapters support each other,” said Li, president of Middleton High School’s DECA chapter.
Middleton High School junior Elizabeth Kanne was named a Series Champion at the Mid-West Invite.
“It was very exciting to be named a Series Champion, especially considering all the other experienced DECA members who were participating that day,” Kanne said. “It was great to have the opportunity to practice competing before Districts in January, and I'm very grateful to the volunteer judges and others who helped make the competition happen.”
Sophomore Eric Huang and junior Andrew Wang were named Team Series Champions at the Mid-West Invite.
“Competing in the Mid-West Invite was a valuable opportunity that let us test our chemistry in role-plays and prepare for Districts,” Huang and Wang said. “We were very privileged to be named Series Champions and are excited for the rest of the competition season.”
Join us in wishing the DECA team best of luck at Districts and a great season!
