District Hosts First Affinity Group Meeting

Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District has prioritized empowering and supporting our BIPOC Staff (Black, Indigenous, People of Color). On November 1, 2022, we hosted our first Affinity Group Meet, where BIPOC staff could come together in a safe space and learn about the important work we are accomplishing at MCPASD.

Highlighted in our District Strategy Map, we have several goals that target our BIPOC staff.

Board Goals:

1. Increase the number of staff of color in all employee groups until our staff demographics at least match our district demographics.

2. Achieve a 90% retention rate of all employee groups, with a particular emphasis on our staff of color.

District Goals:

  1. Increase the percentage of teachers of color to 10% by the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.
  2. Maintain a 95% retention rate of staff of color by the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

We are making great strides in continuing to increase the number of BIPOC staff in all employee groups to match our student demographics. BIPOC staff are a treasure in our district; their voices and insights are essential in the work of equity and inclusion. They provide invaluable support to our students, and it's truly a fantastic feeling to have our student demographic reflected in our staff.

Thank you to Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Dr. Silvia Romero Johnson, Director of System Improvement, Percy Brown, Director of Information and Public Relations, Shannon Valladolid, District Translator and Interpreter, Jose Velarde Aguilar and Student and Family Engagement Specialist Antonio Hoye for speaking at the Affinity Group meeting and leading the charge on this important work.
