Monthly Update with Monogue - March 2022

As always there are so many exciting things happening at MCPASD that we wish to share with you, so lets get started!

First, an important reminder.

Our district has moved to a “mask optional and recommended” policy. This means masks are no longer required in our facilities. Another policy we have changed is no longer requiring masks in our district vehicles, including our school buses based on recent guidance from the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Many students and staff continue to wear masks in our buildings and when riding district vehicles for a variety of reasons. Others choose to not wear masks in these settings.

All choices are honored and respected.

You likely saw a postcard we sent to all Middleton-Cross plains families with information on how you can attend our community engagement sessions.

We have held a couple of sessions so far, and we are seeing an excellent turnout for the meetings. The focus group sessions involve a presentation about our past, current, and future budget strategies and financial positions and how we may need to proceed in the near future with a referendum in the fall. It is important to us that our community remains informed and engaged, so we encourage you to attend.

If interested, you can scan the QR code on the postcard to register or visit our website and view our Facebook events page for more information on how to register.

Our District recently finished celebrating Black History Month!

Our focus as a District is to always create an inclusive environment where students and staff alike can thrive and be celebrated for what makes them special.

All of our schools participated in our celebration and the staff hosted some awesome events!

Middleton High School engaged students in daily trivia about influential historical events and figures during daily announcements. Kromrey Middle School recently voted on the most creative classroom door decor, and brought out their dancing shoes for their Hip-Hop luncheon hosted by student engagement specialist and DJ, James Adams.

Pope Farm and Northside Elementary also used art to educate by creating several informative and inspiring displays in the halls. Be sure to also check out our video on our social media where we sat down with some of our Glacier Creek Black Student Union students as they explain the importance of Black History Month and a few of the ways they celebrate their culture at home and at school. Thank you to our staff for finding fun ways to educate and celebrate during Black History Month!

A reminder that the Board approved the 2022-23 District school year calendar of Education during their regular meeting on February 14th. Please visit our website or review your infinite campus messenger for more information about these important dates.

Your child's school will communicate more detailed information on school-based calendars later this year.

It has been a very successful month for Middleton High School and Clark Street Community School students in academics, athletics, fine arts and student organizations.

Congratulations to all 29 National Merit Finalists at MHS! Wow, what an incredible achievement that truly speaks to your academic excellence and personal determination.

The students are eligible to be selected as National Merit Scholarship recipients in March. The criteria will be based on a series of requirements, including academic records, testing scores, educator recommendations, leadership roles and activities, and their own personal essay. If selected, students are eligible for several awards, including the National Merit Scholarship. If not selected, students are still eligible for other special scholarship awards.

We wish you the best of luck in your bright future ahead!

The MHS black box theater recently hosted the play “Romeo and Juliet.”

The cast and crew did a splendid performance! It also was the biggest set design for the black box theater yet. We look forward to seeing all of the exciting productions ahead from our fine arts and music department! Be sure to keep an eye out on the MHS website and social media accounts for upcoming performances.

19 DECA members recently competed at the State Career Development Conference in Lake Geneva. The students performed role plays that resembled scenarios they would encounter if they worked in business or marketing. They also took a marketing-related exam that tested their knowledge of related concepts. Students were also able to compete with projects they created before the competition.

Congratulations to students Varsha Gouraram, Aarush Jain, and Shreya Ramesh for being named series champions in multiple events and to the rest of the team for their high scores as well!

Our boys swim team finished in 4th place in their state competition in athletics. Not only that, but the team set a new record for the 400 freestyle relay, placing them at the third-fastest time in state history! Junior Nick Chirafisi set a new school record in the 200 and 500 freestyles!

The MHS snowboarding and ski teams saw success on the slopes!

Both teams recently competed in their state competitions! The girls snowboarding team placed 2nd overall. Junior Chloe Larson took first place and Senior Emma Chandler took second place as an individual competitors! The boy’s team brought 3 new participants to state this year, giving them a solid foundation for next years competition.

The boys ski team placed 7th and the girls in 14th for their state competition followed by senior Griffin Ward who placed in 6th during the individual competitor round.

Congratulations to both the ski and snowboarding teams!

Both these groups were recognized by the board of education at their regular meeting on March 28th.

Finally, congratulations to the MHS Cheer team!

They recently placed third in the traditional small division conference, making it the best state finish Middleton has ever had!
