Middleton High School students enrolled in programming class and in programming/STEM club facilitated an exciting event this week called 'Hour of Code!' This week marked the 6th year that MHS has hosted this event. Teachers who have elected to sign up their class are led by one of 35 student facilitators through various coding activities every day throughout the week. Over 1,000 students participate in the event each year!

The computer science field continues to drastically lack diversity. The event was designed by the nonprofit group Code.org in an effort to broaden participation in the computer science field. Over the years, it has reached students of all ages in over 45 languages. Millions of students and teachers in over 180 countries participate. MHS is one of the 85,694 events registered this year!

This event is a terrific way for students to explore new opportunities and have fun while doing it. "Our hope is that all students will recognize computer science as a viable and important pathway for them and consider pursuing computer science in the future," said math/sciene  teacher Lori Hunt.

Thank you to all 30 students who helped plan and facilitate the Hour of Code event. We would also like to thank CODE CS, Programming, and STEM club advisors Alli Smith, Yanna Keohane, Jacob Mandelbrot, Aarush Gupta, Aishani Da, and Lori Hunt for their hard work and planning!
