The District is requesting feedback from District families, all staff, and students in grades 6-12 about its school resource officer (SRO) model.

Links to separate surveys for each group were sent via email on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The survey will remain active until Jan. 14.

Last spring, the District decided to formally evaluate its SRO model. The topic of police in schools has garnered significant attention at the national and local levels and the timing of an evaluation in the District seemed appropriate and necessary, Superintendent Dana Monogue said.

Parents and guardians along with staff  who are interested in providing additional feedback via focus groups were also sent a link to a focus group interest form that must be completed by Jan. 14. Focus group participants will be selected at random. We will strive to ensure a balance of racial demographics and opinions within the focus groups. Not all who are interested may be able to participate in a focus group later. Applicants will be notified of their selection for a focus group by Jan. 18.

The District anticipates bringing an evaluation report to the School Board in March 2021. This report will provide a description of our evaluation process and activities and recommendations regarding our school resource officer model going forward, Monogue said.

"We appreciate your assistance in our evaluation process and we look forward to determining the very best path forward for our District when it comes to police in our schools,'' Monogue said.

If you have a child in a District school or are a staff member and didn't receive the email with a link to the survey or focus group, please email Director of Communications Perry Hibner.
