The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District will hold a Budget Hearing and Annual Meeting on Monday, Sept. 21 starting at 7 p.m. at Kromrey Middle School, 7009 Donna Dr., Middleton.

The Annual Meeting is normally held at the District Services Center, but has been moved to the Kromrey cafeteria so attendees can properly social distance due to COVID-19. All in attendance will be required to wear masks. The meeting can also be streamed live on the District's YouTube Channel. Only District residents in attendance can vote on the three resolutions.

The Board of Education will hear information on the 2020-21 District budget, including a financial report and a PowerPoint presentation. After electing a chairperson, all residents will vote on three resolutions:

  • Resolution A: Resolution to Levy a Tax for Adding to Capital Fund. The fund, which is used for maintenance, is proposed to be increase $25,000 to $1,050,000 this fiscal year.
  • Resolution B: Adoption of Tax Levy of $78,769,335 for the 2020-21 fiscal year.
  • Resolution C: Adoption of School Board Salaries for 2020-21. If adopted, president Annette Ashley would receive $4,200 and the other eight Board members would receive $3,600.

Superintendent Dana Monogue will provide a State of the District presentation, which will take place before the resolutions are voted upon. The meeting is open to the public.

The Board of Education unanimously approved the preliminary budget for 2020-21 at its regular meeting on July 20.

It is a common practice for school districts in Wisconsin to approve a preliminary budget during the summer to begin their fiscal new year, Assistant Superintendent of Operations Lori Ames said. A number of factors or variables that significantly impact the budget, including student enrollment, equalized property value, and state aid, are not known or finalized until October thereby resulting in the use of estimates in preparation of the preliminary budget.

The agenda for Monday's meeting is available on the District website. Legal notices and budget information for the Annual Meeting are also available.
