Nearly 70 high school students have joined the District’s Seal of Biliteracy program this year, showing a greater commitment to developing their multilingual skills. Earning the Seal helps students stand out after graduation with diverse cultural and linguistic abilities.
“We are thrilled to have even more students express interest in this prestigious recognition program,” said MCPASD Director of Multilingual Services Mandi Sersch-Morstad. “We look forward to continuing to recognize and celebrate the diversity of languages of our students in our District community.”
All students have to document their English language proficiency, advanced fluency in a partner language, and sociocultural competency to earn the Seal. While students can’t earn the Seal until the end of their senior year, they can begin work in the program as soon as they enter high school. Seven Middleton High School seniors are on track to earn the Seal in the spring of 2026. In addition, nine juniors and five sophomores have already passed the testing requirement for their chosen partner language.
The 2025-26 school year is the fourth year that MCPASD has offered the Seal of Biliteracy. 17 total recipients so far have earned the Seal in languages including French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Russian, and Spanish. Recipients are using these skills in their educational and career plans, paving the way for more opportunities in the bright future ahead.
