February Monthly Update With Monogue

Hello and welcome to the February 2023 edition of the Monthly Update With Monogue!

February hosts a multitude of great celebrations, including Black History Month! I invite you all to join our District in celebrating the contributions of the  Black Community and challenge you to reflect and seek opportunities to learn more about communities and cultures outside of your own.

It has been a busy month for celebrations here at MCPASD!

First, lets recognize all the great accomplishments happening at our High School…

Congratulations to the Middleton High School Future Business Leaders of America on their recent success at the Regional Leadership Conference! 70 students placed in the top three and will be competing in the state conference in mid-April.

The MHS Dance team made program HISTORY by bringing home two awards from their recent state competition. They finished 4th in Poms and 6th in Hip Hop in Division 1! Also, a round of applause to senior Neva for being named to the Division 1 All-State Team! Dance coach, Jackie Rehberg, was also named Wisconsin Dance Coach of the Year!

The boy's swim and dive team won their recent ‘big 8’ conference by 150 points and won all three relays!

The Cardinal wrestling team took 3rd place at their recent conference team meet! Great job, team, and coaches!

Lastly, the curtains have closed on the performance of the Shakespearean comedy "Much Ado About Nothing." Congratulations on your fantastic work, everyone! We heard that it was a sold-out show! I would also like to share a special thank you to director Tim Gittings and set designer Zane Enloe for their hard work and leadership. You can view all the photos from the performance here.

Congratulations once again to all!

Did you know that February is career and technical education month? C-T-E is an umbrella term for all of our Business Education, Technology & Engineering, and Family & Consumer Science classes and organizations. Thank you to all of our CTE teachers and staff for helping make these programs possible!

We also recently celebrated school counselor week! Through great teamwork and leadership, our team has continued to provide support to our students and their families. Thank you for all of your hard work. You are seen and appreciated.

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States? Our team at the District Services Center participated in National Wear Red Day on February 3rd to raise awareness and show our support for families affected by heart disease.

The bus drivers in our school district are the backbone of our transportation program. They go out of their way to ensure that all students are safe and arrive at school safely every day.

We want to say thank you to all of our bus drivers during Wisconsin school bus driver appreciation week, which is February 13-17.

In Wisconsin, there are more than 13,000 school bus drivers who safely transport more than 300,000 students to and from school each school day and travel a total average of 144 million miles a year.

Be sure to say thank you the next time you see one of our bus drivers on the road!

Happy year of the rabbit! Volunteers from Middleton High School, Glacier Creek, and Kromrey Middle School recently hosted a Lunar New Year celebration in the MCPASD High School Campus north commons. They invited the community to enjoy activities and cultural cuisine and even had a dragon dance performance! What a great opportunity to celebrate with the community and learn more about Asian culture and customs.

Is your high school student interested in pursuing a degree in education? I invite you to check out our district website to learn more about the Education Academy program at Middleton High School. The program helps juniors and seniors expedite a degree in education by offering advanced placement and dual credit courses that can be applied to an associate's degree. This program is free for all students who qualify. The application period is open right now for high school sophomores interested! The last day to apply is March 1, 2023.

It’s time for a field trip! Our staff was out and about this month, visiting classrooms at the Middleton High School Campus! Director of Information and Public Relations Shannon Valladolid and Public Relations Specialist Becca Bailey visited Clark Street Community School to discuss their background in journalism and storytelling.

We also had Technology Systems Engineer Cleveland Stegal and MHS Math and Computer Science Teacher Lori Hunt share their career journey in the information technology field with the Middleton High School Black and Latino student unions. Thank you all for sharing your professional experience!

MCPASD is always proud to see our alumnus shoot for the stars! We were excited to learn that 2007 Middleton High School graduate Bill Rahko was nominated for 3 grammy awards this year for his work as a producer for the band Coldplay. Congratulations, Bill, and remember to thank your favorite school district at the next grammy awards!

Lastly, we leave you a few honorable mentions shared with us by our MCPASD families during National Doggy Date Night.

Thank you, and see you next time!
