A Zoom Jeopardy Game with the MHS Green Team

The MHS Green Team virtually visited two elementary schools, Northside and West Middleton, on Jan. 21 and 22.

The goal of the visits was to provide a fun and interactive way for students to learn about sustainability and taking care of our planet. At Northside, four third-grade classes rotated among four activities: Jeopardy, Solar Power Demo Kit, Catchphrase, and Climate Change Skit. Besides running into several technical issues with Zoom, the activities were fun and exciting for the third-graders. At West Middleton, three third-grade classes rotated among three of the four activities: Jeopardy, Solar Power Demo Kit, and Catchphrase.

At the end of the week, Green Team members had interacted with more than 100 elementary school students. Green Team members felt fulfilled after interacting with our younger grades, and the third-graders were excited to see high schoolers and do the fun sustainability activities that the members led.

"It was exciting to see students smiling on the screen while Green Team members led the activities," said junior Daphne Wu, Green Team president. "I think we all worked really hard on organizing everything."

The MHS Green Team is working to hold more MCPASD elementary schools, Wu said. This project is part of the Green Team’s mission to help increase sustainability education, an area of potential improvement for the District, especially in younger grades. Creating a respect and responsibility for our environment begins at a young age, and education plays a huge role in how generations of students will preserve and protect our planet. The MHS Green Team is proud to be a part of that education, Wu said.
