April SEL Theme: "Hands That Create Change"

This month, our school-wide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) focus shifts to action. While we often tell children they can change the world "someday," this month we are showing them they are doing it now.
By focusing on how "hands create change," we are fostering a growth mindset and a sense of civic responsibility. Whether a student is creating, helping, or fixing, they are learning that they aren't just observers of the world—they are the architects of it. We look forward to highlighting the moments where our students’ actions make a tangible, positive impact this month.

Our school-wide Social Emotional Learning theme for March is 'Hands that Solve Problems'.

This month students will learn about:

How to solve our problems using S.T.E.P
- S: Say the problem
- T: Think of solutions (Kelso Choices)
- E: Explore consequences
- P: Pick the best solution

Using S.T.E.P with different scenarios like
-
Being left out
- Playing unfairly
- Making amends
- Name-calling

These STEPS help students solve problems with each other in a safe and respectful way.

School Bus Driver Appreciation Week: February 9-13, 2026

School Bus Driver Appreciation Week is here! We are incredibly grateful for our dedicated drivers who ensure students travel safely to and from school each day.

We invite students to help make our drivers feel special by showing their gratitude. A simple "thank you" as they exit the bus or a handmade card from home is a wonderful way to recognize their hard work and commitment to our school community.

Thank you for helping us celebrate our wonderful transportation team!

This month, students have been learning how to comfort and tend to their own emotions and the emotions of others, as we connect to our district’s Cardinal’s Journey mindset of being self-aware.

Today, students put this learning into action by making comforting tie blankets for animals awaiting adoption at the Dane County Humane Society.

This service project provided a tangible way for students to practice compassion and empathy. We are so proud of their hard work and creativity!
