MCPASD is continually improving its artificial intelligence (AI) policies and procedures for educational and workplace settings, ensuring that students and staff thrive in the digital world that is increasingly impacted by AI.
The District’s AI Team started building guidelines in August 2024 and completed an AI readiness assessment in February 2025. This informed updates to MCPASD’s AI Framework and professional learning opportunities. Staff recently began the first of several training sessions regarding AI, with access to enterprise-level AI tools like Brisk, Gemini, and Google Classroom Gemini. These tools provide support in creating lesson plans, rubrics, quizzes and more.
Additionally, MCPASD is committed to upholding careful AI safeguards for high school students. Updated policies allow high school students to have access to Google Gemini, a generative AI tool that provides support in areas including the creation of study plans and summarizing notes and presentations. Students are receiving instruction and support in their classrooms on how to use AI safely and effectively. Currently, students at the high school level are the only ones who can use AI tools.
“Middle and elementary students do not have access to generative AI,” said MCPASD Director of Technology Services Brian Miles. “The AI team will be reviewing this periodically to ensure we are making the best decisions possible for students based on research.”
While younger students will not be using AI tools, their digital literacy instruction in the District may incorporate some AI topics. This includes ethical use and evaluation for secondary students as well as digital citizenship for younger students.
A dedicated AI webpage is now a central hub for the community to learn about the District’s AI resources, policies, and guidelines, which will guide students and staff safely through the continually evolving digital world.
