MCPASD Safety and Security Coordinator Asher Torbeck spoke at a press conference on Sept. 11 about ensuring the digital and physical safety of our students and staff.
He spoke alongside Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul; Jesse Crowe, commander of Wisconsin's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force; Trish Kilpin, director of the Office of School Safety; and Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett.
Torbeck shared how the Speak Up Speak Out (SUSO) tip line is a valuable resource for MCPASD, and he emphasized MCPASD's strong relationship with the Department of Justice's Office of School Safety.
“Last school year, we received 364 SUSO tips," Torbeck said. "They ranged from inappropriate behavior to self-harm, substance abuse, social media activity and bullying. SUSO gives us the opportunity to connect our student services team with the student, who can then work in partnership with families and, when necessary, law enforcement to ensure a prompt and appropriate outcome.”
