Middleton High School alum Callie Moyer recently graduated from St. Norbert College with a major in elementary education, and next week she will begin teaching at Sauk Trail Elementary School.
Moyer said as a student at MCPASD, she wasn’t planning on a career as a teacher.
“I knew I loved education,” Moyer said. “However, my dream was to be a professional dancer!”
Moyer was among 80 new teachers and staff that MCPASD welcomed during the New Educator Induction event at Kromrey Middle School earlier in August, and one of two MCPASD alums who returned to teach in the District this year.
As a child, Moyer attended Kromrey Middle School, where two teachers inspired her in sixth grade.
“Bill Luebke and Carol DeYoung really opened up my eyes to how teachers can be supportive and inclusive in their classrooms, while continuing to challenge students to grow every day,” Moyer said. “They definitely impacted and helped shape my teaching philosophy.”
This year, Moyer will shape her students’ lives as a fourth grade teacher at Sauk Trail Elementary School. She said the opportunity to teach so many subject areas is what appealed to her about working at the elementary level.
“It is so much fun to connect with students throughout the day learning all of their interests, strengths, and challenges,” Moyer said.
She said the “amazing” Middleton and Cross Plains communities made her want to return to MCPASD.
“The community within the District is so strong, coming together for events like Good Neighbor Fest, Back-to-School Nights, varsity sporting events, and performances at the Performing Arts Center,” Moyer said. “I truly missed it while I was away at college!”
Moyer is most excited about making memories this year with her fourth graders: “They are the reason I am here, and fill every day with excitement, joy, and laughter!”
She offered advice for current MCPASD students considering a career in education.
“My biggest piece of advice is to know you’re not alone,” Moyer said. “The support from other staff members in the building and as well as parents will help guide you so much during your beginning years of education. Being surrounded by such supportive team members has helped me grow so much as an educator and also as an individual.”
