More than 150 music students from Middleton High School, Kromrey Middle School and Glacier Creek Middle School participated in the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) State Solo & Ensemble Festival hosted at UW-Platteville on April 25.
Students qualified by earning high marks at earlier festivals in February and March. They performed solos or small ensembles in front of a judge and audience members, and received scores and commentary on their performance.
At the festival, 32 MCPASD performances – the most of any school district in the state – were nominated for the prestigious WSMA Exemplary Performance Award; 17 performances went on to receive the award.
Students are nominated for the award for musical performances that far exceed an expected high school level. Each of the 20 judges at the festival can only select two of the more than 1,000 performances to receive the award.
