Seven Middleton High School students will perform with the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras (WYSO) at its 24th annual Percussion Extravaganza concert at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, at the Middleton High School Performing Arts Center.
Led by Vicki Peterson Jenks, director of WYSO Percussion, the concert will feature the WYSO Percussion Ensemble, the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Chamber and World Percussion Ensembles, and the Heartland Marimba Quartet. The Iowa-based quarter aims to support and advance the classical marimba art form, its music, and its composers and performers.
The concert theme is “We Rise by Lifting Others.”
“The entire purpose of our Percussion Extravaganza is to provide a balm for the soul, hope and joy,” said Jenks. “All of our performers – no matter their age – are truly amazing! Music, empathy, and community can change lives for the better.”
The community aspect of the concert is emphasized through WYSO’s partnership with WayForward Resources. WYSO will donate a percentage of ticket sales to WayForward Resources in support of its mission to create food and housing security.
Middleton High School percussionists include Nithya Allu, Roger Chang, Josh Gustafson, Grace Hanson, Ethan Hunter, Zane Johanson and Lauren Kim.
