Nine Middleton High School special education students celebrate their graduation on June 3

The Middleton High School Special Education Program recognized the Class of 2025 during an inclusive Fundamental Graduation Ceremony on June 3.

Plans for the ceremony began last year after leaders realized the larger commencement ceremony could be difficult for students who have different sensory needs. This new event allowed students to celebrate their achievements in a similar way without feeling overwhelmed.

"This was a perfect way to celebrate a successful four years at Middleton High School and send them off to Cardinal Academy in the fall," said Amy Lashuk, Special Education Teacher at Middleton High School.

Nine special education students received certificates in front of their families, advisory classmates, and Best Buddies – a program that works to create connections and relationships between mentors and students with disabilities at Middleton High School. They also enjoyed cake and refreshments after the ceremony.

"Families were so grateful for this opportunity," Lashuk said. "It was a perfect end to their great time here at Middleton High School."
