Middleton High School’s Relay for Life Club is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, May 10, in support of the American Cancer Society, and MCPASD students and family members as well as community members are invited to attend. It will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. at Middleton High School's football field.
“Relay for Life is a student-led club at Middleton High School that focuses on raising cancer awareness along with money donated from our community that gets sent directly to the American Cancer Society,” said Middleton High School senior and Relay for Life co-president Jacob Francois.
He said the family-friendly event includes games, food and activities for all ages. The club will sell “Cards vs. Cancer” t-shirts to raise money.
The event is also an opportunity to honor loved ones going through cancer treatment and memorialize those who died from the disease.
“We'll have games set out, face painting, a set of challenges, but most importantly our luminaria event where we honor those who have fought cancer,” Francois said. “Families are welcome to come and make a bag for their relative or friend who has battled or is battling cancer, and that bag will be included for our luminaria night for this year and years to come.”
“Our main goal is to honor those who have battled cancer and have a fun and memorable night,” Francois said.
He noted that Middleton High School has sponsored the club for several years with support from the American Cancer Society and Ben White, a former associate athletic director at Middleton High School. Middleton High School teacher Bob Hutchinson is the club’s current advisor.
“Personally, I've had the pleasure of being part of the Relay for Life team since my freshman year,” Francois said. “My favorite part without a doubt is the feeling of doing good for your community – the feeling that you're making a difference and helping to provide for the next big cancer research breakthrough.”
