For the third school year in a row, MCPASD has seen an increase in total student enrollment during the official Third Friday Enrollment Count, which plays an important role in resource planning and allocation in the year ahead.

Public school districts report this enrollment count, taken on the third Friday in September every year, to help determine the amount of funding they will receive from the State of Wisconsin. This year’s count, taken on Sept. 18, 2026, showed that MCPASD’s total enrollment for grade levels 4K–12 is at 7,248 students.

This enrollment level is an increase of 20 students from the 2025-26 school year’s Third Friday Count. Additionally, MCPASD has nearly 350 open enrolled-in students and 173 open enrolled-out students for 2026-27, maintaining the District’s status as a positive netted school district in terms of open enrollment. The Third Friday Count also guides critical decisions such as classroom sizes and resources, program offerings, and student-to-teacher ratios.

Enrollment increases support MCPASD’s ability to maintain appropriate staffing levels and offer a variety of course options and activities, while enrollment declines can have an impact on class sizes, program offerings, and more. However, enrollment declines don’t automatically mean that districts can reduce staffing levels or operating budgets. In the video below, Assistant Superintendent of Operations Jerrud Rossing explains the impact that enrollment numbers have on MCPASD operations.

MCPASD will continue to monitor enrollment across all grade levels throughout the school year.
