The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District will host nine technology outreach sessions for families and community members to learn more about topics ranging from AI and digital safety to screen time and assistive technology.
MCPASD’s Technology Services team and its partners will host a series of one-hour sessions, each focused on a specific topic. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions in each session.
“Making connections and collaborating with families on these timely topics is important because it ensures there is a space to discuss students' technology use,” said Director of Technology Services Brian Miles. “This allows the District to respond to the wants and needs of families in our schools.”
Miles and Middleton High School business teacher Bill Boehm will host the first session on Oct. 20 to share how students access and use technology across the school day. They will explain what the District expects of students when they use technology as well as how content filtering works on District devices and networks. Families will also learn how 2025 Wisconsin Act 42, which requires school boards to prohibit student use of wireless communication devices during instructional time, shapes when students may use personal phones at school.
Miles and School Resource Officer Julie Carbon will host the Nov. 10 session on digital safety. They will discuss the online risks students face most often, and share warning signs of online grooming and sextortion, scams and phishing messages aimed at students, cyberbullying, and fake and AI-altered images of students. Also, Miles and Carbon will explain how to tighten privacy settings on popular apps; set strong passwords with multi-factor authentication on family accounts; and report concerns through Speak Up, Speak Out, schools, and law enforcement.
