Within our district, 18% of students receive free or reduced-price lunches. The Weekend Food Program supports MCPASD families facing food insecurity.

We’re honored to support the program, which is a collaborative effort between local churches and the district. The program provides nutritious and easy-to-prepare food to ensure that children get enough to eat over the weekend when they’re not able to depend on school meals.

To participate in the program, families sign up through their schools’ social workers, who ensure that families in need gain access to a variety of community resources. The program covers about 175 students in the district’s seven elementary and two middle schools.

Each week during the school year, volunteers from local churches plan menus, purchase food and pack bags of food. They deliver food to schools, where Student Services staff make sure it gets into participating students’ backpacks for them to take home. We help to provide over 5700 Weekend Food Bags during the 2022-23 school year. The need continues this school year with almost 200 bags being packed each week .
