Scholarships

We award student scholarships – including many that are under our umbrella. Those include the Ashley Family Scholarship, the Doc Cramer Humorous Teacher Memorial Scholarship, Middleton Future Scholars, the Mighty Middleton Scholarship, the Madison Phillips Memorial Scholarship, and Community and Memorial Scholarships annually.. 2024 Scholarship Update

Ashley Family Scholarship

This scholarship honors JoAnn Ashley who was the first in her family to attend college and law school, and was one of a very few women to enter the legal profession i Memphis, Tennessee when she graduated. She was a trailblazer who helped pave the way for other women in the legal professin including Annette Ashley. For this reason, the scholarship is given to a first-generation female student bound for a public college or university. This year the scholarship is awarded to Abby Culver.

Dewey Stendahl Scholarship

"It's a great day for a walk on the golf course."-dewy Stendahl. The family of Dewey and Greg Hall honor Dewey's memory with this scholarship. He was a teacher for MCPASD and also the boys and girls varsity golf coach. The student receiving this scholarship has many of Dewey's characteristics including: positive attitude hard working, character, determination and a love of golf. This year's winners are ellen Close and Charles Jambor.

Mike Harrop Construction Trade Memorial Scholarship

The Mike Harrop Construction Trade Memorial Scholarship was founded by Elaine Harrop in memory of her husband. This scholarship supports the educational goals of a student attending a Wisconsin technical school and pursing s career in the trades. This year's winner is Alex Bauer.

Robert & Debra Weitzel Sustainability Scholarship

The Weitzels have been passionate and involved with our environment. It is with this in mind that a scholarship is given to a student that plans to major/minor in an environmental subject area. This scholarship honors the memory of Robert. It is given to three students this year: Jaqueline Lanear. Naomi Janquart, and Annika Diny.

Middleton Future Scholars Scholarship          

Given by the Middleton Education Foundation, this scholarship supports the educational goals of ambitious youth who have demonstrated perseverance to pursue post-secondary schooling. The recipients of this year’s Middleton Future Scholars Scholarship are: Ricardo Sanchez Cortes and Dima Llanos . 

 Joe Kuehn Memorial Scholarship                          

Joe Kuehn was the President and founder of Plastics Ingenuity, Inc. He was a graduate from UW-Madison and strongly believed in education for all individuals. This scholarship honors him, and is given to a student that wishes to major in engineering. The recipient of this year's Joe Kuehn Memorial Scholarship is Manushri Muthukumara.

John H Ferstl Memorial Scholarship                       

John H. Ferstl was the supervisor of the work/study release program for the State of Wisconsin Division of Corrections. Mr. Ferstl was instrumental in instituting the Federal work/study program into two institutions in the state. The lives of many young people were improved by these opportunities. He believed strongly in the necessity for people to learn to work together effectively in harmony and understanding. The scholarship is awarded to a student planning to enter a career in social work or counseling. The recipient of this year’s John H Ferstl Memorial Scholarship is Florian Riese. 

Nel Ferstl Memorial Scholarship                      

Nel was a special education teacher, and her family was one of the founding families in Middleton. Her home was the original family farm house, and is the historical site next to the Gunderson funeral home. Before her death, Nel set up a scholarship fund at MHS. Each year she wanted a scholarship to be awarded to someone who would enter a helping profession. The recipients of this year’s are: Kate Santschi and Sherlyn Penalver Arguello.

Middleton Education Foundation Scholarship

The foundation’s goal is to provide inspiring experiences for our students now and for decades to come through teacher innovation grants, student scholarships, and a growing endowment. This scholarship is given to a student with particularly high levels of service learning. The recipient of this year’s Middleton Education Foundation Scholarship is: Katie Kim.

Cark Tanner memorial Scholarship

Clark was a 1977 MHS graduate who died shortly thereafter. Clarke planned to study piano in college. His family established this scholarship to honor his memory. The recipient of this scholarship should be majoring or minoring in music and have participated in performing musical groups. This year's winners are Madelyn Watson and Alexa Garber.

Gilsie Techam Memorial Scholarship               

This scholarship is given in honor of Gilsie, whose family lived in Middleton for over a century and owned the land on which the Marriott West  Hotel now stands. Gilsie wanted this scholarship to go to a student of good character and strong work ethic. The recipients of this year’s are: Shivani Potnuru and Anna Gruett .

William Mitchell Memorial Scholarship               

William (Bill) graduated from UW-Oshkosh in 1952 and began a career in education teaching history, English, speech, and debate at Richland Center and Middleton High School, lasting 37 years. During this time he directed 19 plays and 13 musicals. He coached a winning Badger Conference debate team, and also developed a championship forensic team at both high schools. The student that will receive this scholarship must be active in speech, drama or debate in their high school career. The recipient of this year's William Mitchell Memorial Scholarship is: Rhea Dalvie.
