1:31 - Recognition of Middleton High School Boys Volleyball and Girls Swim and Dive Team
The Board of Education meeting started with excitement as members recognized two outstanding Middleton High School teams for earning state championships.
The Board first honored Coaches Andrew Cotton, Cyndie Zocher, RJ Leiferman and the Middleton Girls Swim and Dive team for earning their third consecutive state title. Achieving a state championship is remarkable; achieving it three years in a row highlights the exceptional talent, discipline, and commitment of the athletes and coaching staff. This is the second time the program has earned a three-peat, winning from 2016 to 2018 and again from 2023 to 2025. They are only the 15th team in state history to win at least three successive championships.

Two freshmen were also recognized for their standout performances. Congratulations to Hanna Jodlowski, who became the program’s second individual dive champion, and to Hanna and Quinn Mazur for placing first and second in Division One diving. Hanna earned the state title with a score of 490.75, and Quinn earned second place with a score of 489.65. Their achievements mark an impressive start to their high school careers. We extend our appreciation to the students, coaches, and families for the dedication and pride they bring to our District.
The Board also celebrated the Middleton Boys Volleyball team and Coach Dylan Griffith for an undefeated season that concluded with a state championship. Their 39-0 record reflects their strong teamwork and competitive spirit from start to finish. They are only the second boys volleyball team in Wisconsin history to complete an undefeated season, joining Appleton North, who finished 34-0. The team also held the number one ranking for the entire year.
During the state tournament, WIAA staff members, event staff, and fans shared how respectful and mature our student athletes were throughout the event. This feedback reflects the character, sportsmanship, and leadership they display on and off the court.

As a District, we value excellence in both academics and extracurricular programs. These state championships highlight the hard work and character of our students and the adults who support them. Thank you to both teams for representing MCPASD with pride and distinction.
9:47 - Superintendent's Report
In her report, Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue shared that she hoped everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving break. She also recognized Chris Dahlk, principal of Sauk Trail Elementary, on her retirement after 35 years of dedicated service to our District. Board Clerk Marni Ginsberg thanked Chris for supporting students for so many years, and the Board joined in a round of applause to celebrate her incredible career.
11:20 - Two Year Calendar Recommendation Discussion
Director of Employee Services Dr. Barb Buffington and Director of Information and Public Relations Shannon Valladolid presented the recommended calendars for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years. They shared an overview of the Calendar Committee’s work, which included establishing guiding principles, reviewing historical context, gathering staff feedback, and developing two calendar options for each year.
Staff participation in this year’s survey increased, with 652 staff responding for 2026 to 2027 and 644 responding for 2027 to 2028. In both years, a clear majority of staff, 58%, preferred Option 1, which includes a longer winter break while maintaining the same number of instructional days. The committee’s recommended Option 1 will be brought to the Board for a vote at the Dec. 15 meeting.
25:10 - Elementary Level Report
The Elementary Building Principals and Director of Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Dr. MaryBeth Paulisse provided an Elementary Level Board Report and presentation that highlighted how each school’s work is grounded in our District mission and aligned to their School Improvement Plans. The team shared updates across literacy, instructional strategies, and social emotional learning.
Early assessment data reflects positive progress in several areas. Fall AimsWebPlus results show continued growth in Oral Reading Fluency for grades 1 to 3, and students in kindergarten and grade 1 are demonstrating gains in foundational literacy skills. This year also marks the first use of the AimsWebPlus Early Numeracy assessment for kindergarten, giving the District a baseline to monitor student growth throughout the year. Principals also reviewed Star Reading and Star Math data, which showed strong gains across the 2024 to 2025 school year and fall results that remain close to expected baselines.
Leaders also shared how Responsive Classroom routines, pride groups, counseling supports, and restorative practices are creating strong relationships and a sense of belonging for students across all seven elementary schools. For families and staff, this work means more consistent literacy instruction, more targeted support for students who need it, and classroom environments that prioritize safety, connection, and confidence. The focus on oracy, small-group instruction, and collaboration within teacher teams ensures that students receive instruction that matches their individual needs and strengths. These combined efforts prepare students not only for academic success but also to develop the social and emotional skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.
1:06:31 - State Accountability Report Cards
District leaders Dr. MaryBeth Paulisse, Ken Metz, and Dr. Jan Chynoweth presented the 2024-25 State Accountability Report Cards, which provide a yearly look at how schools and the District are performing in areas such as student achievement, academic growth, attendance, and graduation readiness. They shared that MCPASD reached a significant milestone this year. The District’s overall score increased by 5.8 points, rising from 78.6 to 84.4, which placed MCPASD in the “Significantly Exceeds Expectations” category for the first time. This is the highest rating the state awards.
Leaders also shared that MCPASD continues to perform well above the state in key areas. In Achievement, the District performed at or above 95% of all districts in Wisconsin. In Growth, which measures how much students improve from year to year, MCPASD performed at or above 98.4 percent of districts statewide. Schools also showed strong results in supporting their target groups, performing the same or higher than 84.5% of districts, and remained above the state in On-Track to Graduation measures. Several schools earned “Significantly Exceeds Expectations,” including Elm Lawn Elementary, Pope Farm Elementary, West Middleton Elementary, Glacier Creek Middle School, Park Elementary, and Middleton High School. District leaders emphasized that these results reflect the hard work of students, staff, and families, and that the data helps guide continuous improvement efforts so every student receives the support they need to grow and succeed.
