The Board of Education meeting began by welcoming two new members.

new board membersKatie Frank, representing Area IV, and Bartlett Durand from Area V, were sworn in before the Board of Education. Their terms will span three years, from 2024 to 2027.

We wish to extend our congratulations to Katie and Bartlett as they embark on their journey with the Board, contributing positively to our District.

Bob Green, the representative for Area II, was also administered the oath of office. This year marks his 21st year of dedicated service on our Board of Education. We extend our gratitude to Green for his ongoing commitment to our District.


The Superintendent along with the Board of Education honored three exemplary individuals: two high school seniors and a middle school teacher.

Dr. Irene Ann Resenly is celebrated as the 8th grade World Studies Teacher at Kromrey Middle School and has been awarded the prestigious Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies (WCSS). This organization is dedicated to elevating social studies education across K-12 education, providing a wealth of resources, networking opportunities, and various recognitions like the Teacher of the Year award.

Dr. Irene Ann Resenly is celebrated as the 8th grade World Studies Teacher at Kromrey Middle School and has been awarded the prestigious Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies (WCSS). Known affectionately as Doc Res by her middle school students, Dr. Resenly boasts nearly two decades of dedicated service in the educational field. Her contributions have been particularly notable in Holocaust education, where she has made significant efforts, including roles as a Holocaust Education Scholar in both the US and Germany, a classroom educator in Poland, and also working for a Holocaust survivor in his university office.

Dr. Resenly's passion for teaching is rooted in the delight of both learning herself and imparting knowledge to her students. Her nomination for the Middle School Teacher Of The Year award was propelled by the enthusiastic endorsements from her peers, students, and their families, highlighting her commitment to going the extra mile for her students. It's clear she is more than deserving of this accolade.

Next, Middleton High School seniors Charlotte Kosek and Isha Chilukuri were recognized for being named 2024 Herb Kohl Excellence Scholarship recipients. 

Middleton High School seniors Charlotte Kosek and Isha Chilukuri were recognized for being named 2024 Herb Kohl Excellence Scholarship recipients.

Out of 200 finalists, Charlotte and Isha join an esteemed group of 100 recipients state-wide.  This $10,000 scholarship recognizes their leadership, citizenship, academic achievements, as well as their school and community involvement. 

Drawing on her extensive experience as a musician and her leadership roles in the Middleton High School music program, Charlotte intends to pursue a career in music education and further enhance her skills in oboe performance.

Isha has honed her public speaking skills as an active member of the MHS Forensics team and also serves her community by offering free tutoring services to elementary students. 
After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania, hoping to double major in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics as well as Math. She hopes to become a lawyer. 

We wish them the best of luck as they continue their academic careers. Congratulations once again to both of you for being named a 2024 Herb Kohl Excellence Scholarship recipient.


In her report, Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue highlighted several achievements involving both students and staff:

Student Success Highlights:

  • Kromrey Middle School has been honored with a "Sustainable Middleton Award" by the City of Middleton’s Sustainability Committee.

  • The MHS HOSA - Future Health Professionals chapter, the state's largest, excelled at the state-level competition in Green Bay with over 100 students participating. The students competed across various categories, clinching the state championship. Additionally, Reyna Khatri was elected as the Wisconsin State HOSA president. Kudos to Reyna Khatri and all participants!

  • The MHS FBLA - Future Business Leaders of America team saw 65 of its students rank in the top four of their categories, earning them a spot at the national competition in Orlando this summer. Congratulations to the 102 students who took part.

  • The MHS Theater program is gearing up for its spring play, "Clue: On Stage," to be shown at the PAC from April 25 to the 27th.

  • Congratulations to the MHS Model United Nations team for their achievements at the Northwestern University Model United Nations Conference.

Staff Success Highlights:

  • Rhonda Veroeven, a science educator at Glacier Creek Middle School, is a finalist for the 2024 President's Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, amongst six Wisconsin teachers. This prestigious accolade is awarded by the US Department of Education, recognizing achievements since 1983. Best of luck to Rhonda!

  • The Employee Services Department successfully conducted another "open interview" session on April 17 at the District Services Center, drawing in over 60 potential new hires. Gratitude is extended to the Employee Services Team and to the attending hiring managers and principals for their involvement and efforts in engaging with prospective employees.


Wellness Report

Kalise Horst, the District's Wellness Coordinator, along with Barb Buffington, Director of Employee Services, delivered an annual update on the Wellness program and its policy developments. They showcased the year's accomplishments and discussed ongoing efforts related to the District's Wellness policy.

The significant achievements in wellness initiatives included:

  • A range of wellness-focused activities such as Devil's Lake Adventure Day, Back to School Wellness Morning, fitness workshops, and the forthcoming Color Run.

  • The January 2024 launch of the new MCPASD Employee Health Clinic, which has seen an impressive uptake. The clinic provides services including skin cancer screenings and health risk appraisals.

  • The establishment of a Wellness Policy Committee responsible for the thorough review and revision of the district’s wellness policy. Notable amendments encompass new guidelines governing food celebrations and the inclusion of provisions for mental and social-emotional well-being.

The report's future direction spotlights goals like enhancing collaboration with the health clinic to meet healthcare requirements of employees and their families, expanding preventive health services, driving higher engagement in wellness pursuits, offering support to diverse employee categories, and contributing to hiring and retention strategies.

In summary, the report underscores the District's unwavering dedication to fostering the well-being of both employees and students through a broad spectrum of initiatives, policy improvements, events, and the introduction of the employee health clinic.


Items for Approval

The Board of Education approved the following four items:

  • The approval of the Dane County New Teacher Project Agreement: The District has been a part of the Dane County New Teacher Project for over a decade, collaborating with 17 other districts. This project offers guidance, training, and support to school districts in developing new teacher induction programs.

  • Approval of Pope Farm Lot Sale: Assistant Superintendent Jerrud Rossing put forward a new offer for the last available lot on Pope Farm. The Board previously approved an offer on this lot but that offer fell through.

  • Appointment to the CESA 2 board: According to statutory requirements, the Board must nominate a representative to serve on the CESA 2 board. The designated appointee will attend the CESA 2 Delegate Convention, scheduled for June 18, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the CESA 2 office located in Whitewater. Board member Bob Green was selected for this position.

  • Appointment of deputy clerk and board secretary: The board annually appoints a deputy clerk and a board secretary to aid in its operations. Administration recommended Assistant Superintendent Jerrud Rossing for the deputy clerk position and Cheryl Janssen as the Board Secretary.

Again, all these items were successfully passed by the Board.
