Principal's Pen
February 2012
From Mr. Rykal,
We are now approaching the “Farch” time of year. The months of February and March typically include a long stretch of time where students have been cooped up with the weather – although this year’s weather has been quite mild. Teachers may be re-teaching some of the classroom or school expectations as a review for the kids so we can sustain the solid school climate we have enjoyed so far. The mild weather has also allowed us to complete required monthly fire drills with minimal discomfort. February will also find us doing our second round of assessment meetings, using a combination of both Literacy testing and MAP tests (grades2-5) to form instruction for students.
You Are Invited…
…to have lunch with your child here at school on February 22. This meal used to be held around Thanksgiving, but created too much confusion and hardship for many parents with the close proximity to the Winter Tea. Information was previously sent home with students, but the deadline for reserving your space is February 7. Accurate numbers are important as it will determine what, if any, adjustments we need to make to the lunch schedule to accommodate everyone.
Music Performance
If you have seen it before, you know it’s great! Monday, March 12 is the date for this year’s WM music performance, held at the MHS Performing Arts Center from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Come watch our kids sing, dance, play some instruments, and simply show off their love of music under the direction of Ms. Bodell.
With plenty of advance notice……
The West Middleton Talent Show will be held this year on Friday, May 11. This year’s show will be at the Middleton High School Performing Arts Center, as we are too crowded in our gym to accommodate all of students and the 150 adults that attend. So, we will be transporting everyone to the PAC by bus. More information will be coming home with kids in early May.
To consider at parent/teacher conferences:
Please give your child’s teacher any pertinent input to consider when we get together later this year to develop class assignments for the following year. Though we can not and will not respond to requests for specific teachers, we are interested in your opinions regarding your child’s learning style, specific students to either separate from or include with your child, etc. This information can be given to your teacher, or you can request and complete a student placement form, which all teachers will have at conference time.
