PTA Committees

The PTA sponsors many great programs throughout the school year. Below are a list of the different committees and their chairpersons. Please refer to your school directory for committee chair contact information. To volunteer for a particular committee or to inquiry about a vacant position, please contact the PTA Board.

After School Clubs
This is a new committee to the 2009-10 school year. This committee needs chairpeople and volunteers to research, plan, and administrate after school clubs and courses, such as chess club, art classes, foreign language classes, math and science exploration, etc.

Annual Fundraiser


Instead of a gift wrap fundraiser this Fall the PTA will be requesting a $25-per-student Monetary Contribution. This contribution will be tax deductible. These dollars will be 100% beneficial to the PTA, whereas during product-based fundraisers, only 50% of the dollars raised return to the Sunset Ridge PTA. more info

Book Fair

The Book Fair is a weeklong fundraiser for the PTA. Volunteers are needed to work 1-2 hour shifts during lunch hours or evenings for set up and sales. more info

Breakfast Bonanza

Breakfast items, juice, and coffee are served before school to encourage a special time for a family member to participate in a school activity with their children. Volunteers are needed to help set up, serve, and cleanup during this event. more info

Class Act Art

This program brings the excitement and fun of art and sculpture directly to classrooms. Art is presented monthly in the classroom by a parent volunteer using provided materials. No art experience is necessary and all supplies (such as famous art prints, sculptures, art and artist information) are provided. One volunteer is needed for every classroom. more info

Cultural Arts

Work with staff on selecting and planning field trips for the classrooms throughout the year. Select field trip dates, purchase tickets, organize bus pickup, etc. more info

Family Fun Night

Typically two family fun nights are scheduled during the school year. Volunteers are needed to help plan and coordinate events and to help with setup. more info

Gardening
This is a new committee designed to attract interested gardeners. Work with teachers and custodians to maintain, enhance, and improve the gardens around the school. more info

Hot Dog Picnic
At the end of the school year, we have our annual hot dog picnic.  Lunch express provides an assortment of trimmings. We also have students bring a beach towel or blanket to sit on outside (pending on the weather).
 

 

Junior Great Books

Junior Great Books is a nationwide program that encourages students to read quality literature (folktales, children's classics, poems), think critically about what they have read and participate in a facilitated discussion of the material. Volunteers are needed at each grade level to work with small groups of children to facilitate the group discussions. All volunteers must complete the Junior Great Books training course which is paid for by the PTA. more info

Product Labels/Receipts

Volunteers are needed to cut and count Box Tops for Education, Tyson Labels, Campbells Labels and Milk Caps and to total Cub Food Receipts. These tasks can be done at home as time allows. more info

Purchasing Coordinator

Keep the PTA closet stocked with paperware and other items for upcoming PTA events. Contact committee chairpeople to assess needs and to purchase items at local stores such as Sam's Club, Walmart, Target and etc. on behalf of the PTA. more info
 

Registration/Orientation Day or Open House

Coordinate contents of registration packets. Volunteers needed to assemble and handout registration packets and school supply kits on pickup dates and on Registration/Orientation Day for the next school year. more info

Room Parent Coordinator

Room parents are needed for Kindergarten to 3rd grade classes to assist the teachers in organizing classroom parties and activities. Room coordinators are needed in 4th and 5th grade classes to start a telephone tree to get volunteers for special classroom projects. more info

At the beginning of each school year a school directory is published and will be available on line.

School Supply Kits

School supply kits can be ordered through the PTA typically in the spring of the current year for the following school year. Volunteers coordinate the ordering and distribution of these kits. more info

Science/Technology Fair

The Science/Technology Fair is typically held in the spring. Students prepare their exhibits and set them up for display in the gym. Volunteers are needed to set up and take down the fair, help during the event and complete participation certificates. more info

The Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser is held in conjunction with the Science Fair. Volunteers are needed to work 1-2 hour shifts to help setup, serve and clean up. more info

This is a new committee to the 2009-10 school year. This committee reserves art memories for our students.

Staff Appreciation

Monthly staff appreciation days are held on CRT days and there is an end of the year staff luncheon. Volunteers are needed to send treats for CRT days and the luncheon or help set up for the luncheon. more info

T-Shirts/Wearables

School theme t-shirts are ordered for each child every year and are available on registration day. Volunteers are needed to send out order forms at the end of the school year for the next school year, collect money from parents, order t-shirts and help distribute t-shirts in August. Sunset Ridge wearables (sweatshirts, coats, etc.) are also sold to families during the school year as a fundraiser. Volunteers are needed to select wearables, send out order forms, collect money and distribute merchandise. more info

Thanksgiving Lunch Coordinator

Thanksgiving lunch is one of the highlights of the fall term at Sunset Ridge. The entire family is invited to participate in a traditional Thanksgiving lunch. Volunteers are needed to serve food and clean the tables.
 


Web Page Developer

The Sunset Ridge web site has been developed as a further way to provide information to our families, teachers and staff, as well as for use by new families moving into the Sunset Ridge community. more info

Winter Carnival

The Winter Carnival is a major PTA fundraiser.   A volunteer is needed from each classroom to coordinate a carnival booth for the class.   Volunteers are also needed to help with communication, setting up games, decorations, serving food, etc.   Many parent volunteers are needed to make this great event a possibility. more info

Winter Tea

The Winter Tea is held in December. Volunteers are needed to set up and decorate the day before, serve during the day, or clean up afterwards. Volunteers from each classroom are needed to donate cookies for this fun family event. more info

Yearbook

The Sunset Ridge Yearbook is put together by volunteers. Volunteers are needed to take pictures of events, to send out and collect order forms, layout pages (scrapbooking), word smithing (someone good with wording) and to assemble the book. Help is also needed to distribute the yearbooks. more info
