Four-Year Old Kindergarten Program

Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District began offering a 4-year old kindergarten program (4K) in September 2011. Any child living in MCPASD who will be 4 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2012 will be eligible to enroll in next year's 4K program.

4K Registration Dates

All 4K registration will be at the District Administrative Office, 7106 South Ave. in Middleton. The dates and times are:

Feb. 27 to March 2: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
March 5: 3 to 6 p.m.
March 8: 3 to 6 p.m.

4K frequently asked questions

Who is eligible to enroll in four-year-old kindergarten?

All legal residents of Middleton Cross-Plains Area School District children who are four years old on or before Sept, 1, 2012 will be eligible to enroll in next year's program. There are no student ability or family income criteria.

What does the schedule of the four-year-old kindergarten classes look like?

Four-year-old kindergarten classes are Monday through Friday except the 2nd Friday of each month and follow the official Middleton-Cross Plains School District teaching calendar. Morning and afternoon classes will run for 2 hours and 36 minutes each.

In the event that Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District public school transportation requires these times to be adjusted, all changes will be made by mutual agreement between the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District and the preschool/childcare center and will be communicated with parents/legal guardians as necessary. Morning programs run from 8:45 to 11:21 a.m. and the afternoon class run from 11:51 a.m. to 2:27 p.m.

Will bus transportation be provided?

Bus transportation is provided, as district policy dictates. To qualify, the family must live at least 1.1 miles from the designated site. Parents/legal guardians are encouraged to take their children to the location rather than have them transported by bus.

What is the cost of four-year-old kindergarten?

There is no cost to families to attend the four- year-old kindergarten program. Families who require additional child care services may wish to enroll for wrap-around care at one of the preschools. Cost, services, and availability for child care may vary among sites. None of the participating centers offers a tuition break unless a child is in attendance only during District 4K allotted times.

Who will be teaching the four-year-old kindergarten classes?

All participating four-year-old kindergarten sites provide teachers who are certified by the Department of Public Instruction to teach early childhood.

The registration window for 2012-13 was announced recently. It is:

District residents may register at any time after the original registration window, however, location choices may be more limited the later a child is registered.
