Weber wins Model United Nations award
MHS senior Matt Weber won an outstanding delegate award at the Carl Sandburg Model United Nations Conference on Saturday in Orland Park, Ill., MHS social studies teacher David Piovanetti said.
Weber, a member of the MHS Model United Nations Club, represented France in the United Nations Security Council, where the topic of the civil war in Syria was discussed.
“It was difficult to work with Russia and China because they threatened to veto any resolution that called for (Syrian President) Al-Assad to step down,” Weber said, “Fortunately, we were able to come to some compromises and pass a resolution that would help end the violence.”
