Three MHS students win writing awards

MHS sophomores Jessica and Mia Kim and Meghna Datta have been recognized by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards as regional winners.

Jessica Kim was awarded a gold key for her piece, "For I am Cuckoo." Mia Kim was awarded a silver key for her piece, "Disillusioned" and Datta also was awarded a silver key for her piece, "Hairy.''

More than 10,000 entries from students in grades 7-12 were received this year at the regional level.  The students received certificates and medals for their accomplishment.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the United States' longest-running and most prestigious scholarshipo and recognition program for students in grades 7-12. More than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted to 118 affiliate regions. The program was founded in 1923 and alumni include Truman Capote, Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath and Stephen King.

National Gold Key medalists will be honored during a special awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June.
