MHS junior Ben Petersen was one of 36 students nationally who were selected to compete in the National Trumpet Competition in Denton, Texas last month.
Petersen performed the first movement of Kent Kennan’s “Sonata for Trumpet and Piano.”
Student trumpeters from across the country submitted video recordings in December in order to qualify for the competition, hosted this year on March 9-10 at the University of North Texas campus. Students in a variety of age divisions -- junior high, high school, undergraduate, and graduate -- were then chosen to compete based on the quality of their submissions.
The National Trumpet Competition was started in 1992 and includes not only the competition itself but also an extensive roster of guest artist performances and master classes. Visit the National Trumpet Competition website to learn more.
