MHS DECA fares well at Districts

Forty-seven MHS students competed at the DECA District 3 Career Development Conference at Sun Prairie High School on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Lily Baird took first place in hotel and lodging, while Lauren Dahler captured first place in apparel and accessories.

Other series champions included:

Nitin Somasundaram: third place on Economics Test and fourth place in Accounting/Finance

Searra  Funch: third place in Retail Merchandising  

Nathan Hibner: third place in Food Marketing

Hailey Bills and Carley Ross: fourth place in Buying and Merchandising Team

Natalie Cho and Chloe Cole: fourth place in Hospitality Team

Marissa Munoz and Kayla Underwood: fourth place in Financial Services Team

Ashley Biwott: fourth place in Hotel and Lodging

Twelve MHS students received honorable mention recognition: Allison Richards and Lydia Shaw (Hospitality Team), Reshma Gali and Elena Roden (Apparel and Accessories), Poojha Prabahara Sundar and Zinnia Nie (Financial Services Team), Connor Bills and Caleb Radtke (Financial Services Team), Emery Engling (Principles of Business Management), Isaac Flottmeyer (Principles of Hospitality), Bridget Holahan (Principles of Hospitality), and Noah Ehrhardt (Sports and Entertainment Marketing).

“This was one of the biggest groups we’ve had compete.  It’s nice to see so many students get involved with the competitions,” MHS DECA adviser Robert Hutchison said. “Middleton DECA definitely had a good day with a number of series champions, honorable mentions, and medal winners.  It’s clear they studied and went prepared.”

Medal winners included Lily Baird, Conner Bills, Hailey Bills, Ashley Biwott,  Natalie Cho, Anders Clark, Chloe Cole, Lauren Dahler, Sam Eggert, Noah Ehrhardt, Emery Engling, Isaac Flottmeyer, Searra Funch, Reshma Gali, Nathan Hibner, Bridget Holahan, Marissa Munoz, Zinnia Nie, Poojha Prabahara Sundar, Caleb Radtke, Allison Richards, Elena Roden, Carley Ross, Elizabeth Schink, Lydia Shaw, Nitin Somasundaram, Kayla Underwood, and Ethan Wildes.

Eleven students will move on to the State Career Development Conference at the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa in March.
