More than 30 MHS students attended the UW-Whitewater DECA Mini-Conference on Saturday, Nov. 11.
The competition was started years ago to give DECA members experience with competition before Districts in January, MHS DECA adviser Robert Hutchison said. The conference is also a fundraiser for UW-Whitewater's Marketing Education Association.
Most of the first-time competitors from MHS were paired with a veteran competitor, Hutchison said.
"This is great practice for Districts," Hutchison said. "It helps first time competitors get experience and experienced competitors get back into competition mode."
The students performed two role plays and took a marketing-related test. The top three in each event earned medals based on their performance. Medal winners included Mara Allen, Ashley Biwott, Natalie Cho, Chloe Cole, Searra Funch, Sidney Helt, Nathan Hibner, Anna Paulsen, Allison Richards, Carley Ross, Emily Ross, Lydia Shaw and Tori Zander.
Senior Nathan Hibner was named the MHS Series Champion because his overall score from all three events was the highest of any MHS student.
