- Completed an approved driver education course

Middleton High School does not offer a drivers' education course as part of the high school's curriculum. Students may attain a Wisconsin probationary license through a program offered by CESA #2 at the Middleton High School.
CESA #2's Driver Education Program
CESA #2's Driver Education program taught at the Middleton High School provides both the required number of classroom hours and Behind the Wheel hours required by the state of Wisconsin. The class is a foundation course that emphasizes the theory and practice of responsible, defensive driving. Students learn the mechanics of driving, the execution of most driving operations and a thorough understanding of the rules of safe driving. The class is designed to improve students' knowledge of traffic safety and to prepare them to receive training for becoming safe operators of motor vehicles. Students will also study the legal and financial obligations of automobile ownership, the care and maintenance of the automobile, accident prevention, the importance of controlling emotions while driving and the effects of alcohol and other drugs on driving.
Once the student has completed the classroom portion of the drivers education program and has an instructional permit, arrangements are made with a Behind the Wheel instructor to provide the DMV required twelve hours of observation and practice driving experience. Upon completion of Behind the Wheel, the instructor will issue the required course completion form enabling a student to take the Wisconsin Licensing driving skill test.
Steps to obtaining the Instructional permit
- Student must be fifteen and six months of age.
- Student must be enrolled and registered in a driver education course.
- Student must provide the DMV verification of enrollment in a driver education course. (Verification forms may be obtained from the classroom instructor at the Middleton High School during class time.)
- Student must provide at the DMV 2 forms of documentation of identity: Birth certificate from register of deeds in county born, social security card, or passport.
- Student must take a knowledge and signs exam. No appointment is necessary for the permit exam at the DMV. If the student takes the permit exam through the instructor at the high school the actual permit must still be obtained from the DMV.
- Any further questions can be answered by accessing the DMV website at: http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/drivers/index.htm
ENROLLMENT PROCESS
A student may enroll in the CESA #2 Drivers Education classroom portion of the program when they are fifteen years of age. The enrollment begins by obtaining a registration form at the front office of the Middleton high school or by downloading a form at the website listed below. Be sure to print and mail the registration form that is appropriate for the academic period your child will take the course.

In completing the registration form it is essential that the name, birth date, address and phone number of the student enrolling be included. Registration forms that are submitted without a parent signature will be returned. The registration form must be completed and sent along with payment to CESA #2 before a student will be considered as enrolled in a class. Once a registration is received and processed a postcard verifying class enrollment will be sent to the home address. Any questions regarding registration, please contact Wendy Schultz by email at wschultz@cesa2.k12.wi.us , or by phone at 608-588-3727.
State law requires a student to receive a full thirty hours of instruction in driver's education to qualify for a probationary license. The class time has been structured to meet the state standard. Attendance by each student is monitored to verify that the thirty hour requirement is met. If a student does not meet the required thirty hours of instruction then by state law the student must re-enroll in the course. A student who has to re-enroll in the course will not be charged an additional fee.
SCHEDULING BEHIND THE WHEEL AT MIDDLETON HIGH SCHOOL
Currently at Middleton High School the Behind the Wheel schedule consists of four instructors, who provide instruction at various times. Brad Rogeberg is the Behind the Wheel coordinator at the Middleton High School. Students wishing to schedule Behind the Wheel lessons should contact Mr. Rogeberg either by email at bradr@mcpasd.k12.wi.us or at his school phone number 608-829-9681. Mr. Rogeberg will have a copy of each instructor's current list of available openings and will assist in scheduling lessons.
To qualify for Behind the Wheel a student must have completed or be enrolled in the classroom portion of Drivers Education and have attained an instructional permit. Since the instructor must have a minimum of two students in the car to be able to provide a driving lesson, absence by one student means the other student will miss a lesson and the length of time necessary to complete Behind the Wheel will be extended. Therefore, the policy of attendance for Behind the Wheel is as follows. Students must understand that if they cannot make their scheduled driving time, they will be responsible for contacting another Behind the Wheel student to fill their place in the schedule. If they do not find a replacement and the scheduled driving time has to be cancelled by the instructor because of the absence, a $20 fee will be charged and the completion form will be withheld until the fee is paid.
ONLINE DRIVERS EDUCATION CLASS
For students that do not fit into the scheduled classes, CESA #2 offers an online Drivers Education class. The online program lets a student fit in driver's education coursework whenever and wherever. Students within the online program complete the Behind the Wheel portion at the Middleton High School campus. Students may enroll in and begin the online course at anytime. A registration form for the online course can be obtained at the following website and is the same form used to register for the classroom.
