Best Buddies is part of a larger national organization with the mission of enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one to one friendships and integrated employment. Best Buddies pairs people with intellectual disabilities and students in regular education for fun and friendship. Through mutually enriching friendships, members gain a greater understanding of themselves and those with special needs. Our club meets several times in advance of each social activity in order to plan fun things to do for the general members. We typically have a matching party and in May we have a picnic for 8th grade students with intellectual disabilities to meet high school friends. Other activities have included pumpkin carving parties, visits to ice skating rinks, bowling, and dances. These meetings and socials are important for parents too. They meet each other and gain support.
Check out the link below from Special Olympics and you'll see a couple of our kids in action!
We're almost sold out of shirts and buttons and hundreds of kids have signed the pledge!
