The use of mathematics in all areas is well documented. The purpose of the mathematics curriculum is to provide all students the opportunity to be successful at their level of mathematical development and to enhance their chances to become functioning members of society. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), State of Wisconsin and Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District have established standards for the teaching of mathematics at the secondary level. The University of Chicago School of Mathematics Project (UCSMP) incorporates technology and is an integrated program developing materials closely related to those standards. Presently, these materials are the backbone of our mathematics curriculum. We believe the UCSMP program will best prepare students for all post high school experience.

Expectations for students entering a 4-year baccalaureate degree or a 2-year technical or associate degree program are that these students complete at least Algebra II. Our department, however, recommends these students should continue with one of two pre-calculus options. The two-year sequence (FST and PDM) is recommended. Students looking for early entrance into the job market, as well as those students who still need math credit for graduation, may find Applied Math I and Applied Math II suited to their needs. See your counselor or mathematics instructor for further information on careers requiring a background in Mathematics.

NOTE: Graphic calculators are required for all students in Algebra II, pre-calculus options, or Calculus. Students with financial need may be eligible for assistance or a leasing program.
