English Language Learner courses are for students who speak a language other than English as a native language, and who are adjusting to use of English in school. These courses allow students to practice essential skills of speaking, reading, writing and listening in English. U.S. cultural topics and information about school life in the U.S. are blended with study and practice of English.
ELL provides three (3) different levels for students of varied English proficiency. Placement is determined by a standardized English test or an interview between student and teacher. ELL courses are not elective courses.
