MHS HOSA has strong showing at state

Freshmen Julia Hylbert and Sophia De Oliveira took first place in the Health Occupations Students of America Bowl team event at the State Leadership Conference and Competition in mid-April at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells.

Hylbert and De Oliveira took first place in forensic medicine. Senior Madhu Gowdwa won the state championship in medical terminology, while junior Cami Spellman took second place in medical terminology.

Hylbert, De Oliveira and Spellman will be attending the 40th annual International Leadership Conference on June 21-24 in Orlando, Fla.

It is the sixth consecutive year the club has attended at the State Leadership Conference.

In addition, MHS HOSA will have two state officers in 2017-18. Anton Tung will serve as vice president and Nitin Somasundaram will serve as oublic relations officer. MHS HOSA Club adviser Jochen Hylbert will again serve on the Wisconsin HOSA executive eommittee state adviser.

"We are very excited to have four individuals fare so well at state and proud that Anton and Nitin will serve as state officers,'' Hylbert said.
