MISSION STATEMENT
Middleton High School is a learning community that fosters intellectual growth and habits of commitment, reflection, wellness and wonderment, developing citizens who make a living, a life and a difference.


Freshman Year of High School
  • Do your best academically, your school record is very important.
  • Map out what classes you may want to take the next four years. Colleges recommend students take challenging courses.
  • Join clubs and activities in your area of interest.
  • Start building a relationship with teachers. This will help you with letters of recommendation.
  • Begin family discussion on college costs.
  • Meet with your counselor.
  • Do something productive during the summer.
Sophomore Year of High School
  • Look for leadership roles in clubs and activities.
  • Sophomore testing REQUIRED (WKCE) in the fall.
  • Start thinking about what college choice may be right for you.
  • Become familiar with standardized tests you need to take. We recommend sophomores take the PLAN test (pre ACT) in the fall.
  • Meet with your counselor to discuss plans for the summer and next fall.
  • Become familiar with career search area of LMC or work with career search web sites.
  • Volunteer for community service projects.
Junior Year of High School

August
  • Make sure you are taking challenging courses and maintaining good grades.
October
  • Register and take the PSAT/NMQT (the Pre-SAT and National Merit Qualifying Exam)
March
  • Register for the ACT. Online registration is suggested.
  • Register for the SAT I to be given in May or June (AND perhaps the SAT II). Online registration is suggested.
Spring
  • Begin campus visits and visit with college representatives in the Guidance Office.
Summer
  • Continue campus visits and obtain applications.
  • Try some online college search sites. See your counselor for more information.

Senior Year of High School

August
  • Double check graduation credits and do any class changes needed.
September
  • Make an appointment with your counselor before beginning the application process.
  • If letters of recommendation are needed, the person should have a minimum of three weeks' notice.
October
  • Continue preparing college applications - give the Student Services Office several weeks to process the application.
  • Begin checking scholarships - scholarship information can be found on this web site, in the scholarship file cabinet in the Student Services Office, in the Daily Announcements, and in the school Newsletters.
  • Begin preparing application for the early decisions application deadline on November 1st.
November
  • Early Decision Application Deadline - November 1st.
  • MATC begins accepting applications.
December
  • All college applications due to counselors by December 1st.
January
  • Begin financial aid process. Complete income tax forms, begin FAFSA or other financial aid forms, if necessary, get them in as early as possible.
  • Double check graduation requirements.
February
  • Local scholarship applications are available at the end of the month.
  • Continue checking for available scholarships.
  • Sign up for Advanced Placement (AP) tests.
March
  • March 1st is priority deadline for filing for financial aid.
  • Local scholarship deadline.
  • Continue checking for scholarship information.
April
  • Make decisions as to which school you'll attend, complete housing forms and other information.
May
  • Senior trip.
  • Graduation.
  • Inform the Student Services Office of your final college choice so that a final transcript will be sent.
