Kromrey Clubs and Activities
The following is a listing of clubs, sports, and intramurals planned for the 2011-2012 school year. A minimum enrollment of 15 students is required for a club or sport to be held. Fees per activity: Athletics - $36.00, Clubs - $21.00, and Intramurals - $15.00. Confidential scholarships are available via application through the school office. Students joining an after school activity (club, sport or intramural) will be expected to turn in the following before the second meeting of the group: 1) Completed physical card or alternate year card for any activity that can be considered a sport -whether it is a club, intramural or athletic activity. 2) Completed Emergency Card. 3) Fee for the activity has been paid. Further details on all activities will be provided to families via daily announcements and web updates closer to the start date of each activity. This list is subject to change throughout the school year.
Art Club: Art club meets after school once a month from September to February from 3:25 to 4:55. Sixth grade typically meets the first Monday of the month and the 7th/8th grade club meets the third Monday of the month.
Basketball: Intramural basketball is broken into groups of 7th and 8th grade boys in early winter, 7th and 8th grade girls in late winter, and a 6th grade co-ed group in early spring. Students involved in out-of-school basketball CAN participate.
Broadway Express: Broadway Express is a theatrical club which rehearses Broadway musical scenes. Broadway Express is open to 7th and 8th grade Choir members. Members are required to attend one practice per week on either Monday evenings (5:15 to 6:15) OR Tuesdays (3:25 to 4:25). Students can alternate attending on Monday or Tuesday as needed. This club will run from the end of September through the Winter Choir concert in December/early January.
Builder's Club: KMS Builder's Club is the middle school version of MHS Key Club, and is sponsored by Middleton Kiwanis. Builder's Club provides student leadership and community service experiences under the direction of parent, faculty and Kiwanis advisors. KMS Builder's Club meets from October through June from 3:25-4:40pm at KMS, with additional community leadership events schedule throughout the year.
Chinese Club: In this club students will have a chance to learn Chinese songs, play Chinese games, make Chinese food, watch Chinese movies, draw Chinese paintings and write Chinese calligraphy on Chinese rice paper using Chinese brushes. KMS parents Hong Gao and Noelle Au will facilitate this club which will meet every other Tuesday after school beginning on Tuesday, September 27 and running through April 24. Most club meetings will occur in the KMS LMC from 3:20 - 4:30 p.m. Interested students should plan to attend the first meeting on Tuesday, September 27. The dates for the year are as follows: Sept. 27, Oct. 11 and 25, Nov. 8 and 22, Dec. 6, Jam. 10 and 24, Feb. 7 and 21, March 6 and 20, and April 10 and 24.
Cross Country: Cross Country is an interscholastic sport for 7th and 8th graders and is considered an intramural for 6th graders: the difference being that the 6th grade students do not travel and compete against other schools. Cross Country runs from September to late October. Take a run at it!
Dances: Student Council sponsors four (4) student dances after school. A dance in the fall and winter run immediately after school to 5:00 p.m. “Spirit Night” in the spring includes a dance, and another is provided for the 8th grade student celebration at the end of the year.
Flag Football: Flag football is an intramural activity for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. This activity runs during October.
Forensics: Forensics Club meets during the months of November through February. This club provides students with a chance to improve upon their public speaking, oral reading, and dramatic performance skills. Forensics students prepare a solo or group presentation, performing at two or three meets that take place on Saturdays in February. Students are evaluated at the meets, which involve up to 12 area schools.
Foreign Language Club: In addition to expanding student’s cultural knowledge of French, German and Spanish, students in this club are also exposed to other cultures around the world. We meet September through May, once a month, from 3:25 to 5:10 p.m. Past activities have included: cultural art projects, guest lecturers, Origami, making Gingerbread houses, movies, dancing, games, cooking, dinner at an ethnic restaurant, internet activities and more. We also take a trip to the International Folk Fair (near Milwaukee) on a Saturday in November. The club’s schedule is determined in September at our first meeting. We often meet on Tuesdays, but sometimes alternate the days to avoid conflicts with other after school clubs.
Future Problem Solvers: The Future Problem Solving (FPS) Club at Kromrey will introduce students to the components of the FPS Program. This worldwide program stimulates critical and creative thinking skills, encourages students to develop a vision for the future, and prepares students for leadership roles. Students will work in teams to examine new topics and challenges each year that require them to develop creative problem solving skills and futuristic thinking. Teams will compete with other students across the state to try to qualify for the State FPS Bowl to be held in April.
Gymnastics: This intramural group meets for five weeks in late winter, early spring. Open to all KMS students, this group’s goal is to have students acquire an appreciation for the sport of gymnastics.
Library Club: Library Club provides extra time for students in the LMC. You can read, select books at a leisurely rate, play a game, finish your homework, complete some research, or use the computers. About four times a year there is a special activity. Past activities have included book origami, dismantling broken equipment to see what is inside, book and author videos, book processing, and creating bulletin boards. The club meets Thursdays after school until 4:00, from October until April. There is no charge for this club.
Science Club: Science Club will meet every Thursday from September to December, from 3:25-4:40 P.M. Guest speakers and other hands-on experiences will also supplement the program.
Ski Club: This club schedules four (4) chaperoned trips to Devil’s Head Lodge for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, on Friday nights in January. Transportation will be provided to and from Devil’s Head from Kromrey’s parking lot. The buses will leave at 5:00 p.m. and return around 10:45 p.m. Check our web site at www.mcpasd.k12.wi.us/kms for the latest information. Look under “Activities and Sports” for Ski Club information. All students wishing to attend any of the trips must pre-register. If you have any questions, please feel free to call one of the advisors.

Student Council (Elected Position):
This club meets all year long and develops a variety of activities for the school and community. We have meetings every Friday morning from 7:30 – 8:00 and also have three conferences we attend throughout the year. We host the school dances, raise money for charities, and help out with many school activities. If you love to meet new people, would like to strengthen your leadership skills, and are motivated to work hard, please listen for announcements at the beginning of the year for information on our first meeting. Track and Field: Track and Field for 7th and 8th graders runs April and May. This activity is an interscholastic sport, with competitions scheduled through the Middle School Badger Conference.
Volleyball: Sixth grade volleyball begins the first week of school. 7th and 8th grade boys and girls begin practice in October.
Wrestling: Wrestling, like Cross Country, is an interscholastic sport which is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, with the 6th grade participating as intramural. 6th graders do not wrestle in meets unless agreed upon by both schools.
Yearbook:
Yearbook Club is made up of students who wish to help record the year at KMS. Yearbook staff works on the layout, text, and take pictures leading to the production of the school yearbook. This club meets once a week starting in September and will be busy through March. Yearbook staff members have a viewing party in May when copies of the yearbook arrive at school. Being a member of the yearbook staff requires responsibility and dedication from its members, but the final product offers a great reward.
