Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District and its schools scored exceptionally high in the Niche.com annual rankings that were released this month of the best public schools in Wisconsin.
MHS learned Tuesday it was ranked the No. 1 public high school in the state, while Glacier Creek and Kromrey were ranked the seventh and eighth best middle schools. The middle schools also were ranked 266th and 267th, respectively, in the nation.
The next highest ranked middle school in Dane County was Waunakee Intermediate, which placed 11th. The next highest ranked Big Eight middle school was Prairie View in Sun Prairie, which placed 34th.
All six District elementary schools -- Northside (15th), Sauk Trail (16th), Elm Lawn (19th), Sunset Ridge (20th), West Middleton (25th) and Park (34th) -- placed among the top 34 in Wisconsin.
The next highest ranked elementary school in Dane County was Arboretum in Waunakee, which placed 35th. The only other Big Eight district with an elementary school in the top 100 was Sun Prairie, where Horizon was ranked 97th.
Clark Street Community School, a high school focused on project-based learning, was the 28th-ranked charter school in Wisconsin.
MCPASD ranked fifth among all districts in Wisconsin. The next highest district in Dane County was Waunakee, which placed ninth. The next highest Big Eight district was Sun Prairie, which placed 19th.
